Unique Sonderwunsch model with extraordinary paint

With many special features, such as the extraordinary “Chromaflair” effect paint in Urban Bamboo, the longitudinal stripes of the body, or the leather upholstery of different colors and with abundant cross stitching, this model exemplifies what can be done with the help of the Sonderwunsch program.

Born as a show car, it was so successful that it ended up in the hands of an enthusiast. Guglielmo Miani, Director of the Milanese luxury brand Larusmiani, fell in love with the unique vehicle during a visit to Zuffenhausen and ended up purchasing it. The sports car made its first public appearance at the 2022 edition of “Fuori Concorso”, on Lake Como. Organized by Miani, this event celebrates automotive culture.

The inspiration for this extensively customized Sonderwunsch model came from one of four Porsche 959s that the predecessor department of Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur had developed for a client in the late 1980s. The Stuttgart manufacturer is a pioneer in factory customization and, with more than 1,000 additional options for each model, has doubled its possibilities since 2012.

Artisanal: the “Chromaflair” painting process

Among other features, the 911 Turbo S Coupé Sonderwunsch shares its striking color with the Porsche 959. However, the current interpretation eschews the polarizing Dark Gold, in favor of an Urban Bamboo painstakingly hand-painted using “Chromaflair” technology, with the A total of five coats of paint are applied. The particularity lies in the very fine pigments of the top layer, which make the viewer perceive different shades of color depending on the viewing angle and light. In addition to Urban Bamboo, Porsche also offers the “Chromaflair” effect paint in the colors Python Green, Magenta Magic, Shifting Carbon and Explosive Gold.

As on the historic 959, a tricolor design stripe extends from the front wings to the rear, passing over the doors and shoulders. The line that this stripe follows was adapted and optimized for the shape of the 911 by designer Grant Larson of Style Porsche, using masking tape in the design phase. The final strip is hand painted in the colors Rock Green Metallic (699), Jet Green Metallic (Z6H) and Anthracite Brown Metallic (M8S).

This decoration motif is also present in the cabin: three colored stripes adorn the center of the door panels. Likewise, the center sections of the front seats contrast with the black leather upholstery and are colored Slate Grey, Agave Green and Island Green. The Island green cross stitching is another eye-catching element of the interior. These elaborate handcrafted stitching is found on the top of the dashboard, on the doors and on the rear side panels. The trunk, completely upholstered in leather, underlines the elegant character of this 911 Turbo S.

The equipment list includes almost 50 options. Something that is offered free of charge is the Sonderwunsch emblem, which indicates the year in which the corresponding project was completed. Inspired by the historical racing stickers of the 70s, it has a round shape and is located on the rear window on the driver’s side. This emblem is also found in engraved format on the lid of the center console storage compartment.

About Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur

Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur and Porsche Classic enhance and restore unique sports vehicles, with a combination of craftsmanship and attention to detail. As part of its co-creation strategy, the sports car manufacturer now offers a new interpretation of its legendary Sonderwunsch program from the late 70s, allowing it to create personalized and unique cars, with the active participation of the customer and Porsche production.

The expansion of this offering covers two distinct areas: one concerns the work carried out on the production line for individual colour and material requests requested by customers when ordering their new model (Factory Commissioning); the other concerns the “official” modifications carried out after delivery to the customer (Factory Re-Commissioning and Factory One-Off). In the latter area, Factory Re-Commissioning is aimed at implementing individual colours and materials after the model has already been produced, while Factory One-Off is a systematic new technical development for making cars unique at any time. Depending on the age of the vehicle, either the technical experts at Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur or Porsche Classic are responsible for the implementation.
