Throughout the history of motors we have witnessed true feats of engineering, and machines that will always remain in our memory, such as the McLaren F1. And what was proposed as the first hypercar from Woking would not have been possible without the participation of BMW with its V12 engine. A collaboration that could take place again, but this time to create an SUV capable of rivaling the Ferrari Purosangue.
Two big brands could collaborate again, but to create an SUV
Piers Scott, McLaren’s communications director, has told CarScoops. And although it is true that the British firm has not been as open as we would have liked, has shed quite a bit of light on this project:
- The project is still in its infancy as there is no design or mechanics decided.at least not apparently.
- However, they speak of a product with a shared platformwhich would allow the creation of “two- and four-door cars” with “the capacity to accommodate more than two occupants inside.”
- Scott himself has confirmed that BMW is one of the options on the table to give life to this project.
- It would be an SUV with a V8 or V6 plug-in hybridmechanics that we already find in models such as the BMW XM or the McLaren Artura, a car that already has batteries from the Bavarian firm.
- They want it to be a car closer to Purosangue and not so much to Lamborghini Urus, making it more exclusive but also more expensive than the SUV from Sant’Agata Bolognese.
The McLaren SUV could be born from a new collaboration with BMW, thus creating a car with a shared base, possibly, with the BMW XM
There will also be room for a 100% electric car

- Scott has also confirmed the search for a partner to develop the electric car from McLaren.
- Although they have not announced names, they have said that the focus is on firms from Southeast Asia.
