“The heads of the big studios are accountants with pretentiousness”

Johnny Depp is making its debut in the UK with Jeanne du Barry, his last movie. The historical film directed by Maiwenn, where Depp plays King Louis XV of France, is a French production that opened the Cannes Film Festival last year and it already screened in Spanish cinemas in September, but it is now new in the British Isles.

That is why these days new interviews are coming out with the actor and the director, who has said that during filming the team was somewhat afraid of Depp due to the unpredictability of his character. For more than five years now, the actor added to the string of fiascos that he had been experiencing a fall from grace within the industry as a result of his various scandals.

In the midst of the post-MeToo era, after accusations of abuse by his ex-partner Amber Heard and a series of media trials for defamation (first against the tabloid The Sun for calling him mistreated, then against the actress herself), Hollywood began to close its doors to Depp (he lost his role as Grindelwald in the saga fantastic animals, any return of Jack Sparrow to Pirates of the Caribbean…) and his career limped to Europe.

Not that the actor seems to care too much. Since then he has made films like Waiting for the Barbarians (2019), The Minamata Photographer (2020) or the aforementioned Jeanne du Barry. The truth is Johnny Depp does not show that he misses Hollywood and in a new interview with Meter he freely dispatches himself against the current leaders of the industry.

When asked about his current relationship with Hollywood (“They threw me in the trash”) and if he would like to work in a big production again, the actor responds by attacking the heads of the big studios. “They are disposable and they know it. [Son] accountants with pretentiousness who have the power to give the green light to the films that are made… They press a button and spend a lot of money,” he says.

“The budgets of these movies are delirious… Like some other romantic comedy with two very popular people,” he continues. “People, real people are tired of that kind of thing.”
