The Mexican singer, formerly known as Danna Paola, decided to shorten her stage name to simply “Danna,” a decision that initially generated controversy among her followers and the general public on social media. The actress, also with an extensive career that ranges from participation in children’s projects to roles in productions for a more mature audience, now seeks to present herself through a prism of maturity and professional freedom.

The artist faced criticism and accusations of acting capriciously, especially after publicly asking a user of X, formerly known as Twitter, to give her the username that matched her new stage name. This action caused a wave of negative reactions against the user from the singer’s followers.

According to reports from Soy Grupero, sources close to the artist indicate that the name change is due to a strategy to escape the unfavorable conditions imposed by a previous contract. The hashtag #DannaEresContigo has gained strength on social networks this Saturday, April 27, reflecting the public’s support for the revelations about the singer and actress’ reasons for giving up her middle name, “Paola.”

The Mexican music star revealed the change to “Danna”, driven by a contractual conflict that seeks to evade financial obligations with his former manager

A message thread on X (formerly Twitter) has shed light on the possible reason behind this decision, revealing a legal complication involving his former manager, Sandra Sherezada Roldan.

According to the thread, Sandra would have deceived Danna Paola, making her sign a document by which the artist agreed to deliver 30% of the profits generated under the name “Danna Paola” to her former manager. This situation would have led the singer’s record company to advise changing her name to “Danna” to avoid these financial obligations.

Roldán would have put pressure on Danna to sign agreements that committed a percentage of the artist’s income under her full name, Danna Paola, leading to a protracted legal battle that also involves the record label Universal Music.

To face this situation, the artist would have resorted to Guillermo Pous, a lawyer specialized in intellectual property and renowned defender of the rights of artists, thus seeking to restore their contractual freedom. A symbolic aspect of this struggle is glimpsed in the music video for “We Have to Talk,” part of her new album, where the singer appears signing a contract with her previous stage name, in a clear allusion to the transfer of rights that faced.

In response to this complicated scenario, Danna has chosen to remain resilient and confident in her choice. She has taken advantage of her social media platforms and various interviews to thank her fans for their constant support and reiterate her dedication to her artistic career and her personal development.

It is important to mention that Sandra Sherezada Roldan has a history of similar practices with other artists, including Belinda, which resulted in a four-year prison sentence for Roldan.

It was in 2023 when it was revealed that Belinda had been under an artistic restriction imposed by her record label for years, a situation from which she successfully managed to disassociate herself. But beyond professional limitations, a controversial chapter in her career involves Sandra Roldán, who has been a figure of legal dispute for the artist.

Sandra Sherezada Roldán Sánchez has been involved in multiple incidents of fraud, one of which directly affected Belinda. In 2015, it was discovered that she committed fraud by taking advantage of her position, going to renowned stores and requesting clothes in Belinda’s name without her consent, and subsequently appropriating them. This breach of trust led the “Lo sorry” singer to take legal action against her former employee.

The situation escalated until Belinda issued a statement in which she explained the situation and apologized for the inconvenience caused by Roldán’s actions. In the statement, she highlighted how some people improperly sought to benefit financially at her expense:

“I want to say that citizen Sandra Sherezada Roldán Sánchez has been sentenced by a final sentence to 4 years in prison after pleading guilty to the crime of fraud committed against me, my parents and against the Mexican State.”
