With his role as the priest Sal Tedeschi in Immaculate (Michael Mohan, 2024), Alvaro Morte ascends to the heavenly court twice: star of one of Hollywood’s spring films and member of the League of Good Priests.

In addition to starring in a great production on the other side of the pond, the well-known Professor of The Money Heist He also shares a cast with one of the women of the moment. And it is that It’s not every day you confess and put on Sydney Sweeney’s robes, the brightest star in today’s Hollywood.

How did you end up filming alongside Sydney Sweeney in Immaculate? By the grace of God?By the grace of Sydney, that she is a goddess. We met at an awards ceremony in Madrid, we spoke for three minutes and three weeks later I received the offer. Clear, I couldn’t say no to a wonderful actress which is a cucumber.

How have you felt in a horror movie?I don’t like the genre too much, but I thought the script was It could be a super entertaining movie. I believe a lot in having a good time at the movies and reaching the public. I promise you that we have not had any other type of claim. We only want that. I know we’re not going to win any awards for the movie, but it’s just that Our intention is for people to go to the movies, Fill yourself with popcorn and enjoy… If we can also talk about some of the little things that are happening in the world, the better.

Michael Mohan, the director, has stated that he sought inspiration for Immaculate in the Catholic formation of his childhood. Did you do the same to build your character?I didn’t need it, because the environment is already generated from production and because in a country like Spain we have grown up with a Catholic education. I, for example, took communion. I grew up in a town in Córdoba and I remember that When the processions came out I was scared shitless. At mass I was faced with that tremendous baroque imagery that we have, with all those mourning and suffering figures, which are quite creepy. That’s why I think it makes a lot of sense to connect it with a horror movie, and I’m not just talking about Spain. You watch Michelangelo’s Pietà and it’s absolutely wonderful, but it also conveys the horror of a woman hugging her murdered son.

You were talking about the script and the horror… As in The Money Heist, you play a man, priest Sal Tedeschi, with secrets. What do you give to casting directors to make them so attracted to your hidden side?Any character who does not have secrets must be given them. It’s part of the success of any story that it forces you to ask yourself questions. Because, if everything is clear from the beginning, where is the suspense? Where does it intrigue you? Where is the need to continue watching the movie? When you see Father Tedeschi you never know exactly what kind of truth (or lie) he tells. I really like to play with the fine line in which the public must decide If you can trust him or is he the most traitorous person of the entire convent.

Part of that game is based on your charms. You become a member of the order of horny priests, in a hot priest in the manner of Andrew Scott FleabagFor example.Indeed, you can connect it with series like The thorn bird and those kinds of movies. The forbidden always generates a certain morbidity. I must say that I had a wonderful stylist called Francesca who helped me a lot in this regard, because she spent the entire shoot adjusting my cassocks so that they fit tighter and tighter to the body and become a “fit priest”.

Let’s talk about Sydney. Very cool and all, but in addition to being the star, she is still the producer of the film. What is it like to work and talk back to your boss? This is the second time this has happened to me, because Rosamund Pike She was also the star and producer of The wheel of time. In the series, we were filming a scene together and I saw that it wasn’t working… I stopped filming to take a look. She looked me up and down and I thought they had already fired me… and yet he said he agreed with me. But Rosamund was different, because she was in the series more as an actress than as a producer. Sydney has been involved in everything: the acting, the costumes, the editing, the music… It’s very cool to see someone who is a star and who is so young involved in all facets of filming. Sydney is a perfect machine at an industrial level, who also knows how to take advantage of herself and the situation she is experiencing.

Even if I don’t want to, I have to ask you this question (or I’m the one risking getting fired). Producer Carol Baum has created a stir by stating that Sydney Sweeney “is neither pretty nor can she act.” What do you answer? All the opinions must be respected… even if they are absurd, like yours. I’ll explain it to you: when you do a project you can’t aim to please everyone, because it’s impossible. You must do it from honesty and whoever likes it fantastic and whoever doesn’t like it, then too. If this girl thinks this is so, then I respect it absolutely and deeply.

Sydney usually works with the same director, producer, even coaching staff. After your father Tedeschi, do you already consider yourself a member of the Sydney parish for future projects? It was one of the reasons that made me decide on the project. They had already made a movie together (The Voyeurs) and they enjoyed it a lot. I thought that if they repeated it it was because it was going to work. In a filming where there is already an important part that is director, main actress and production that is understood, it is always more comfortable.

So is there a chance to see you in Immaculate 2?Well, I think my character has it difficult…

That’s what the magic of cinema is for! That’s also true…
