“It took me three weeks to say this word with a Galician accent”

Hurricane Candela has made landfall with The Asunta case already released in Netflixin what represents another commitment to the black chronicle of Spain after The body on fire. Instead of Úrsula Corberó, The Asunta case has in its first line Candela Pena. And this implies two consequences: an always committed and creative interpretation of the Catalan actress, and the subsequent explosive promotion that she ensures. Within that promotion, the actress went through the podcast CINEMANÍA My life in movies, which you can listen to below.

Tristan Ulloa, Javier Gutierrez and Maria Leon complete the main cast of The Asunta case. Precisely, the role that was intended for Candela Peña is the one that León (the agent investigating the case) has ended up playing. However, Candela had already walked on the correct side of the street enough with Iron and preferred to try his luck with the opposite. The actress beat the first options for the character of Rosario Porto and won the script.

His decision, for the moment, and in the absence of the premiere, has covered it with abuse and threats by social media users (and ordinary citizens), who criticized her for giving life to one of the best-known filicides in our country.

How did Candela Peña come to play Rosario Porto?

In this interview for Cinemanía, Candela Peña has revealed her master plan to star in The Asunta case. The tools: tape and a black dress. “As Rosario Porto is a tiny woman, I put on a black t-shirt and bandaged my chest”, says the actress. Her “picaresque” had an effect and the producer, Ramón Campos (who had already approached this case in a documentary) gave him the go-ahead.

As is usual for her, Candela Peña dispensed with forgettable and prefabricated answers when asked about Rosario Porto. For the actress, what attracts her most to this woman is her mental illness and, above all, “that Not even the worst of acts defines a person”. In this regard, Peña believes that much of the animosity that Porto aroused came from “people who had money to have been able to send the girl to a boarding school in Scotland.” “Let’s try to understand that maybe more things happened there”Add.

I work full time to be Galician

The Galician accent has been one of Candela’s great challenges in this role. “I’m from Barcelona and I knew that there are extraordinary Galician actresses who could have played this character,” she said in the interview. “I experienced it as a very big responsibility.” To guarantee a 100% Galician accent, Candela Peña put herself in the hands of two vocal coaches who made her rehearse day and night. “It took me three weeks to say the word ‘Alfonso’ (the name of Rosario Porto’s husband). I spent hours repeating it,” explains Peña.
