There will be land for those affected by Quimbo and indigenous people

The National Government is working to give 5,000 hectares of land to the indigenous community settled in Huila, a fact that would be completed during the four years of the current president. In Huila, the Special Assets Society indicated that it can have 12,000 properties.

And on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of the current month, a business conference will be held in the region with large land bidders in the center of the Department, to buy the properties within the framework of this strategy.

Land for those affected by Quimbo

Regarding access to land, Lester Garrido, Regional Director of the Land Agency-Huila, emphasized: “there is a commitment assumed by our National Director, Felipe Harman, which is to resolve the problem that was generated by the construction of the “El Quimbo Hydroelectric Project, which affected numerous families in the center of the Department.”

It is worth remembering that last February, on a visit to Pitalito, the National Director noted: “here there is a commitment settled by a ruling of the Constitutional Court, and compliance cannot be entangled, due to ‘imbelecs of Emgesa. “We are going to develop a detailed work plan that guarantees and ensures, honoring the word and complying as an agency and National Government with the relocation.”

“We already spoke with them (Enel), and the idea also caught on, that we practically have to ask Emgesa for a ‘favor’, to provide the data of the people to be relocated. That does not work, nor will it be like that,” the official highlighted. This plan is aimed at those who have not been registered by the company.

Property for indigenous people

Another population group that will benefit from the delivery of land is the indigenous community.

“There is a commitment on the part of Gustavo Petro’s government for the department of Huila for the indigenous population, which is 5,000 hectares during these four years,” indicated the regional director.

Already in December 2023, the then General Director of the National Land Agency, Gerardo Vega Medina, reported the most recent decision of the Board of Directors of the ANT in which the constitution and expansion of 15 reservations in six departments was approved. of the country for the benefit of 1,751 indigenous families.

Call to social organizations

And with the new headquarters of the Special Assets Society, “we hope to reach the southern departments of Colombia with the institutional offer, and from now on we invite the associations to work with the SAE, to generate value and wealth, for this way the assets that we manage serve the legal economies in the ‘hands’ of social organizations,” highlighted Daniel Rojas, director of the Special Assets Society, on April 24.

“In this sense, there are 12,000 hectares of rural area for agricultural production, and 314 urban properties, for social entities and the popular economy, as well as 17 commercial establishments. And they are confiscated assets that are the product of seizures for money laundering, drug trafficking, corruption,” the manager highlighted.

And among the benefited municipalities are: Agrado, Aipe, Algeciras, Baraya, Campoalegre, Colombia, Garzón, Gigante, Íquira, La Plata, Neiva, Palermo, Suaza, Palestine, Yaguará.

“I also call on the business class of the Department, particularly the coffee growers, this is a grain-producing region. We have the possibility of having around 12,000 hectares of rural land for agricultural production, and we want coffee, the flagship commodity of the country and the region, to be enhanced and we make this land available for this,” emphasized the director of the SAE. .

Panorama of the land in Colombia

In Colombia, 75.5% of the municipalities are rural, which cover 94.4% of the national territory. 32% of the population lives there and Colombia is more rural than we thought a few years ago.

And 46.5% of the land in Colombia (properties of more than 500 hectares) is owned by 0.4% of the owners.

Furthermore, of the 3,718,000 rural properties registered in the national cadastre, 1.7 million do not have formal property titles. While in the city extreme poverty reaches a little more than 5%, in the countryside it is close to 20%.

96.1% health coverage in dispersed rural areas. However, many of the health centers are very distant from the rural populations. And 23.8% of young people in the countryside are inactive, compared to 13.1% of young people in urban areas.

In this sense, the Comprehensive Rural Reform lays the foundations for the structural transformation of the countryside, creates conditions of well-being for the rural population and contributes to the construction of a stable and lasting peace. It seeks the eradication of extreme rural poverty and a 50% reduction in poverty within 10 years, the promotion of equality, the closing of the gap between the countryside and the city, the protection and enjoyment of rights. of citizenship and the reactivation of the countryside, especially the family economy, the National Government pointed out.
