Back at the General Military Academy of Zaragoza, the Princess Eleanor (18 years old) has begun the countdown before ending his time in the Army. The first-born of King Felipe and Letizia is preparing for some very intense weeks: final exams and a new period of instruction and training that will end on June 7. The closing ceremony is scheduled to be held on June 19, as reported in the academy’s annual agenda.
But first, and in a completely unexpected way, Leonor will receive a visit from her parents in Zaragoza. Casa Real has announced that next Saturday Mr. Felipe and Mrs. Letizia will preside over the commemorative event of the 40th anniversary of the Flag Oath of the XLIV promotion of the General Military Academy. Ceremony in which Felipe VI will be the main protagonist since he will renew the oath to the Flag along with the rest of his classmates.
Although it is an institutional event focused on the new King’s Flag oath on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of his entry, it will be inevitable that the spotlight will also look for the Princess of Asturias among the hundreds of cadets who will witness the equestrian event from the patio . Of course, in the same way as the last time, Leonor will occupy a secondary place, although it would not be surprising if Don Felipe took advantage of his speech to refer to her as he has done on recent occasions.
Leonor’s ‘private’ meeting with her parents in Zaragoza
Although during the ceremony everyone will maintain their formal position, at the end of the ceremony Don Felipe and Doña Letizia will take the opportunity to chat for a few minutes with Leonor and the rest of their companions. A private meeting away from the prying eyes of the cameras in which, especially the Queen, she will learn a little more about what these months of military training have been like for her eldest daughter.
It is worth remembering that since Leonor moved to Zaragoza last August, Don Felipe has gone to the military academy several times to inquire about his daughter’s development. Aware of the hardness of this stage, the King has become unconditional support for Leonor and her best advisor. Just a few weeks ago, the kings took advantage of their Easter vacation to go pick up the young woman. A surprise visit that made the Princess of Asturias very happy and with which she inaugurated a few days of family rest.
Infanta Sofía, the great absentee from the family reunion
Once again, Infanta Sofía will be the great absentee from this institutional family reunion. The youngest daughter of the kings is studying the first year of the International Baccalaureate at the UWC Atlantic College in Wales and since she moved last August she has missed all institutional appointments.
The young woman will close this first year in the United Kingdom next June, beginning a long and well-deserved vacation. Unlike Sofía, Leonor will have fewer weeks of rest since she is scheduled to begin her training at the Marín Military Naval School in Pontevedra at the end of August.
