A little over a year after the death of José Julián Figueroa, Maribel Guardia is going through what she considers the worst stage of her grief. Every time she speaks to the press she comments that she cannot assimilate his absence, and in the midst of this process she has not been able to accept the suggestion of the priest José de Jesús Aguilar to get rid of the ashes of her son.
During the month prior to the death anniversary of José Julián and with the arrival of the exact date of that commemoration (April 9), Guardia declared that he was living, and is living, in the most critical period of mourning that overwhelms his being. The pain increases in this month of May because on the 29th his son would be turning 29 years old.
“I don’t know what people who don’t believe in a supreme being do, because it’s what helps me get out of pain and get out of bed. This is an everyday battle. In this way she reaffirms that she is going through a delicate period for her sentimentally and emotionally regarding José Julián. Despite the internal collapse that she faces and its impact on her ability to continue working, Guardia refuses the solution of taking medication. He would rather be aware of his pain than give in to possible drug dependence.
“I prefer not to do those things, because I know that if I start taking medications I will become addicted to them and I will not be able to live without them. I prefer to do it by the skin of my teeth”.
