The first night of the 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards took place live on CBS on Friday, June 7 from the Westin Bonaventure hotel in downtown Los Angeles, United States. The day became historic after an actor became the oldest to win an award.

The oldest Emmy winner

This is the legendary actor and comedian Dick Van Dyke. The performer made history by winning the 2024 Daytime Emmy Award as a guest actor in a drama series daytime, Days of Our Lives by Peacock. At 98 years old, that makes Van Dyke the oldest actor to receive a Daytime Emmy Award.

Before becoming the winner, Van Dyke had already left a footprint like the oldest nominee for the Daytime Emmy Awards.

“I feel like a late-night TV spy,” Van Dyke joked. “I am the oldest nominee in history. I can not believe it. I’ve been playing old men my whole life. If I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself!“.

Van Dyke appeared in the series as “Mystery Man/Timothy Robicheaux” for four episodes.

I’m 98 years old, can you believe it? This exceeds a useful life of 80 years in business. I love you, God bless you“said the actor in gratitude according to Variety. The interpreter also assured that he had a “wonderful” time on “Days” and said that during a serious scene he started laughing and “ruined the take.”

In the Van Dyke category there were other great actors and actresses nominated such as Linden Ashby like Cameron Kirsten, The Young and the Restless (CBS); Ashley Jones like Dr. Bridget Forrester, The Bold and the Beautiful (CBS); Alley Mills as Heather Webber, General Hospital (ABC); and Guy Pearce Like Mike Young, Neighbors (Amazon Freevee).
