This week Coldplay announced the release of their new album, the tenth in their journey, which will be released on October 4. Moon Music is its title and this Friday the 21st it will be previewed by the official edition of the first single, “feelslikeimfallinginlove”, which they already premiered live in their last show. The English band led by Chris Martin also showed what the cover will be like, the art of the album and its packaging. And two Argentine names appear there. Is it another coronation of glory?

In the cover photo, you can see a blue sky crossed by a rainbow and a crescent rising in the center, all with a certain Pink Floyd aura. It was taken by Matías Alonso Revelli, a photographer born and raised in Bahía Blanca. Meanwhile, the art design was in charge of the artist Pilar Zeta. “Since my adolescence I have liked the band, but I was never a super fan… As I am not a fan of any other band, it is worth clarifying,” Alonso Revelli told Teleshow regarding his connection with Coldplay’s music.

Matías says that in August of last year the band informed him that they were interested in using his photo to illustrate the album and that, a few months later, they confirmed that they were indeed going to use it. “The first person who contacted me was Chris Martin himself. I keep the conversation to myself, but I can tell you that he was super kind and very cool,” he says about the dialogue he had with the singer, which was through e-mails and also through a video call.

The photo came to Chris Martin through a friend of his and he liked it so much that it ended up on the cover of the upcoming album. The shot in question is the sky of Bahía Blanca and Matías took it in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. “More specifically, I took it from the patio of my house after my old man called me on the phone to go out and see what was in the sky. “This was in May 2020,” he recalls of the shot to which he digitally added the moon. “In my photos it is a constant, I like to create that dream-like effect, of skies that are difficult to explain,” says this artist who is usually inspired by what is above us: “We always have it there in the sky and it gives us things. wonderful every day.”

As for what Matías believes the band saw in his photo to choose it as the cover for the next album, he says: “I’m speculating here, but they always make reference to the moon – in fact the album is called Moon Music – and also the meaning of the colors of the rainbow: they convey a message of love and equality for all. So, those two things, combined, will have caught their attention.”

And on the other hand, he highlighted the work of Pilar Zeta on her photography to expand the concept to the entire piece that makes up the album art. “I loved her, she is a genius at what she does. I think her work also elevated my photo,” she said.

When the cover and the authorship of the image were revealed, Matías received hundreds of messages on social networks. That led him to leave a few words for his fellow photographers, which he posted on his Instagram stories. “I took the photo with a Nikon D3100 that was already 10 years old. What I’m saying is that you don’t need the most expensive camera to do what you love, put it forward and never stop doing what you’re passionate about,” he expressed.

“It seemed important to me to say that. Many people are discouraged from doing something because they think they need a thousand dollar camera and they don’t. Obviously the equipment helps but it is not essential, especially if you are just starting out. If you are passionate about something, you have to move forward with it, with the tools you have at hand. Later, opportunities will be created to improve them,” explains this artist who dedicates himself exclusively to photography and sells his photos through the Internet.

With an eye on the commitment to the environment and sustainability, the group will launch the world’s first “ecoCD”. According to a press release issued by the English, they redoubled their efforts to make this Moon Music “as sustainable as possible”, so that the CDs they publish are made of “90% recycled polycarbonate, obtained from PET plastic bottles.” recycled post-consumer. Thus, each 140-gram piece will be made with around nine recycled plastic bottles and the first run will be limited and numbered quantities.

Moon Music was produced by Max Martin and is a kind of second part of Music Of The Spheres, the album that Coldplay released in 2021 and which they presented through a world tour that had them in Buenos Aires. Their time in Argentina can be described as “historic” given that they sold out ten consecutive shows at the River Plate stadium, a record.
