The first official collaboration between Grace Abrams and Taylor Swift has finally reached our ears.

Abrams, 24, released his second album, ‘The Secret of Uson Friday, June 21, which includes his duet with Swift, 34, called ‘Us.’

Although Swift’s voice is only heard scattered, her signature style permeates the song that serves as a retrospective of a failed relationship that burned bright and fast.

“Do you miss us?” Abrams and Swift ask at the same time in the chorus. “I felt it / You held it / Do you miss us? / I wonder if you regret our secrets.”

The second verse reminds us of songs from Swift’s 11th studio album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, which released in April. “It felt like something old / It felt like something sacred, like bleeding souls / So it felt like what I’ve known,” they both sing. “You’re 29 years old / So how can you be so cold when I open my house?”

The pre-chorus that follows is where Swift’s voice becomes most prominent. “And if history is clear, flames always end in ashes / And what seemed like destiny, give it 10 months and you’ll be over it / Lovers of Babylon hanging up, missed calls on the line / I gave you mine,” he says in the letter.

The song ends with Abrams posing one last flurry of questions. “I felt it, you held it, do you miss us?” he asks. “The pain of, the reign of, the flame of ours? / The contour, well, sometimes, do you miss ours? / The best guy, well, sometimes, do you miss us?”

The song is co-written by Abrams, Swift and Swift’s frequent collaborator Aaron Dessnerco-founder of The National. The trio also produced the song alongside another Swift collaborator, Jack Antonoff.

Abrams recently explained how ‘Us’ came about by chance.

“Something caught our attention at the same time, very loud and fast,” Abrams told Billboard about working with Dessner, 48. “So we ran to the piano and started writing this song.”

Abrams added: “I used to dream about that kind of stuff when I was a kid.”

Dessner, who produced 12 of the 13 songs on ‘The Secret of Us’, He raved about the experience of seeing Abrams and Swift together artistically.

“It was really fun to see Gracie and Taylor’s chemistry,” Dessner told Billboard. “Gracie was completely amazed to see how Taylor records and produces his vocal performances, and builds the world.”

Dessner co-produced and co-wrote Swift’s 2020 albums, ‘Folklore and Evermore’, as well as having a major role on their most recent album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’.

Abrams and Swift have developed a friendship since Abrams opened for Swift on the first North American leg of her ‘You were Tour’, but everything was about to explode into flames.

At a recent dinner at Swift’s Tribeca apartment, Abrams said a candle knocked over around 6 a.m. after a night of partying and drinking. Swift, thinking quickly, grabbed a fire extinguisher to remedy the dangerous situation.
