Traditional Chinese medicine, a holistic view of the body and health. By Miguel Maymo Argañaraz.

How you breathe, what you eat or even what you do are some of the factors that, according to Chinese medicine, favor or hinder the energy flow of the body and, consequently, affect physical and mental health.

«In ancient China it was said that evil is caused by the natural imbalance of yin and of Yang. The great balance, that of Universeand the small one, the one from body, they coexist with each other in harmony. Expresses Miguel Maymo Argañaraz.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perhaps he has not scientifically proven all his theories, but he has endured and has been renewed over thousands and thousands of years. Today it continues its path without making too much noise, marking and leaving its mark by healing naturally, although more and more studies are focusing on its applications and providing new evidence on its effectiveness.

Throughout its development, Chinese medicine has been greatly influenced by taoist philosophy based on the observation of nature, both on the theory of Yin and the Yang like in the theory of the Five Elements.

Its application on the body has been perfected over many years of observation, practice and study. The conclusion is that the proper functioning of the body and longevity require maintaining the balance of the body with the environment, climate and landscape.

CHI OR VITAL ENERGY IN CHINESE MEDICINE

According to Chinese medicine, the essential matter of a being is qi (chiwhat is commonly called vital energy) and the xue (blood). They are two substances that have the same origin and without them there is no life. One cannot exist without the other, since the xuethe medium, cannot circulate without the push of the qi, the motor; and, conversely, the qi It cannot circulate if it is not transported by the xue.

If everything goes as it should, the body will not suffer any imbalance and if there is, will know how to self-regulate.

For the body to function needs air and foodwhich are two fundamental elements for survival:

  • The airinspired by the nose, enters the lung and is transformed into the qi and distributes it throughout the body.
  • While breathing marks the border between life and death, food ingested through the mouth reaches the stomach. This makes digestion helped by the supply of qi of the spleen. Therefore, for Chinese medicine, if the spleen is not strong, the stomach does not perform its functions well.
