With the objective of improving techniques, tactics and procedures to increase the interoperability of the United States Air Force and Army using troops and transport aviation in a conflict scenario, in the context of Great Power Competition, the North American Armed Forces They carried out Exercise Storm Flag.

Competition between great powers involves rival nations with a high capacity for influence on the international political scene. Today, in addition to the United States, these actors are China and Russia, and this influence and prominence occurs in multiple areas.

The Brazilian Air Force participated for the first time in the exercise with a military tactical transport aircraft, the Embraer KC-390 registration FAB 2858, as well as crews from the 1st Troop Transport Group, the 1st Transport Group and the Airborne Rescue Squadron ( PARA-SAR).

During Storm Flag, tactical procedures were carried out for the embarkation and disembarkation of troops and cargo, in addition to other new concepts that were tested to expand and improve knowledge and develop doctrines.

The exercise also aimed to recognize the strengths and advantages of the participants to overcome each other’s weaknesses, thus gaining more efficiency.

In the operation, the KC-390 with its crews actively participated in the exercise, highlighting the landing on the unprepared Gerônimo runway, at the Joint Readiness Training Center.

The plane had already landed on a 1,800 meter long dirt runway during Embraer tests in Gavião Peixoto, but operationally it is one of the first times that this type of action has been observed.
