Session of the Joint Commission of Isapres.

Despite the rush due to the imminent application of the Supreme Court ruling on private health insurersthe mixed commission that reviews the Isapres Short Law did not vote, as expected, on the indications presented by the Government.

The definitions were postponed for a new session of the instance, which will take place this Tuesday starting at four-thirty in the afternoon. The latter, after the president of the mixed commission and president of the UDI, Javier Macaya, refused the request of pro-government deputies to proceed with the votes and in that context, resolve the differences between the parliamentarians regarding the indications of the project.

The session, however, was marked by the interventions of opposition senators, who mainly pointed out to the extraordinary rise of plans proposed by the Government and They reiterated the idea that the legislation does not provide stability to the Isapres system.

To the above, the senator of National Renewal (RN), Francisco Chahuánadded that this Short Law of Isapres must contemplate the elimination of health claimsin order to facilitate the transfer of users from Isapres with serious financial problems to other private insurers.

“Here what we need to ensure is the continuity of treatments for patients. What happens to patients who today have GES pathology? How are we able to ensure that continuity of treatment if you have any other pathology? This is not simply the Short Law, it is how we are able, now, to lay the foundations for reform. That is our intention,” said Chahuán.

In contrast, the Humanist Action deputy and president of the Health Commission of the Lower House, Ana María Gazmuriurged the parliamentarians of the mixed commission to Do not ask the Short Law bill for “more than what it is” and to concentrate on the current crisis of the isapres.

“This is not the health reform project. In fact, in this project the dates for that are compromised, which are fundamental issues, but I think that part of the trap is that we want to ask this project to give more than what it is and to be part of the reform. I think, on the other hand, that it is important that we focus on what this project is about, which is to solve the crisis caused by the improper charges of the isapres and the rulings of the Supreme Court, but not move further,” said Gazmuri.

For her part, the Minister of Health, Ximena Aguilera, responded to criticism from the opposition that pointed to a lack of proactivity on the part of the Executive in the face of the Isapres crisis. The Secretary of State assured that the Government developed measures that allow the stability of the system and that are focused on the decrease in insurers’ income.

“Let us remember that here the issue of liabilities is one of the elements that is relevant, but The most important thing is the reduction of income towards the future of the industry and that is a substantive reduction. “This requires a series of measures so that the industry can compensate, mitigate in some way this loss of income, as a result of the application of the sentences,” the minister explained.

It is worth mentioning that to respect the deadline set by the Supreme Court, the Isapres Short Law must be voted on tomorrow by the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies. Only then can the bill be in force by next Sunday, May 12.
