Punta Arenas. This Tuesday, May 7, at the “Cirujano Guzmán” Armed Forces Hospital in Punta Arenas, the official launch of Health Operation 2024 took place between the Magallanes Health Service and the Acrux Foundation, along with vital operational support. of the Chilean Navy through the Third Naval Zone.

This activity, which was attended by the Presidential Delegate, José Ruiz Pivcevic, the Regional Governor, Jorge Flies and the director of the Magallanes Health Service Verónica Yáñez, aimed to inform the details of the coverage areas that this important health operation will have. and where it seeks to reduce waiting lists for consultations of specialties not included in the GES in this southern region. The objective is to provide more than 1,000 specialized medical services between May 8 and 10 in the communes of Porvenir, Puerto Williams and Puerto Natales.

The Commander in Chief of the Third Naval Zone, Rear Admiral Jorge Castillo Fuentes, expressed how special it means for the Navy, beginning the “Month of the Sea”, to provide support to this operation:
“We are celebrating the Month of the Sea and being a sailor in this region is very special because this territory has been developed through a combination of efforts, particularly by naval servants. The fact of being able to arrive with you to Porvenir, to Puerto Williams, to Puerto Natales, is totally aligned with our effort to be a contribution and contribute to the development of the region and also nationally. We are the ones who act when the prevention that we are going to develop does not work. A relevant part of the work carried out by the Third Naval Zone is rescues and medical evacuations. We hope that this effort you made will save us in the future from having to evacuate someone in an emergency because thanks to you we were able to detect any problems in a timely manner.”

The director of the Magallanes Health Service, Verónica Yáñez, explained that the challenge is to serve approximately 1,200 people, an important figure for the context of this southern territory, but which depends on the patients’ attendance at scheduled appointments. It is highlighted that the beneficiary population of this operation has been waiting for medical attention for a significant period, therefore a call is made to the contacted patients not to miss these opportunities.

The operation includes the transfer of 38 specialist doctors and health professionals from Calama, Santiago and Temuco, in addition to the technical support with highly complex equipment necessary to provide decisive care in various medical specialties. The Chilean Navy, through the Third Naval Zone, reiterates its commitment to the well-being and health of the most remote communities in the southernmost region of the country.
