Medical students denounce arbitrary change of the Study Plan and unfair extension of the degree

They face significant delays after a curriculum change without prior clear notification. The lack of an adequate equivalence matrix has extended its career by 2 to 3 more years. They demand solutions and transparency in the face of uncertainty and silence from the authorities.

A group of UNLP Medicine students who belong to the previous study plan have made public the situation of uncertainty and discontent that they are going through, since last November 28, 2023, through a public letter.

That day, they were notified that, upon losing regularity, they would be arbitrarily transferred to the current curriculum, with their “respective equivalences.” This change would be executed through the request for readmission, an administrative procedure that until then had been automatic and did not imply a change of such magnitude.

The students began to search for the aforementioned “equivalences” that were not published in a timely manner and whose regulations remain unknown. In the absence of clear information from the administration, the students repeatedly requested meetings with the authorities.

In the last of these meetings, the Academic Secretary, Mario San Mauro, verbally communicated which subjects would be recognized as equivalences. This communication indicated a cut of nine subjects in their academic records.

In addition, a specific subject (Internal Medicine IV) would be eliminated from their academic records as it does not exist in the current plan, which violates the rights of the students.

The students express that this verbal communication and, subsequently, the publication on the virtual bulletin board lack the promised regulatory support, which aggravates their situation and reveals the lack of formality and transparency in the process. Those affected continue to search for clear and fair answers that respect their rights and academic efforts.

Slogans

This change, made without a clear official resolution and without the publication of an adequate equivalence matrix, has left many students without subjects to take and maintain regularity.

As they explained, the lack of planning has generated a significant cut in the academic history of students, prolonging their careers by 2 to 3 additional years, even for those who were about to graduate.

In response to their complaints, they consider that the authorities’ response has been insufficient, suggesting only the completion of administrative files that usually take between 8 and 12 months to resolve. Students encounter incomplete academic records and problems enrolling in courses or taking finals due to the lack of correlative subjects in the SIU Guaraní system.

Without dialogue or solutions from the Student Affairs Secretariat or the authorities, students face an uncertain future and demand a fair response that allows them to continue their training without further unjustified delays, especially in a context of need for professionals in the health system. .
