CCB Blog | Silver Economy, an opportunity for well-being and business

In Bogotá, 16% of the population is older adults, a percentage that has been growing in recent decades. This represents about 1.2 million older people, according to the report from the Observatory of the Ministry of Health (SaluData).

This is a population that should not only be prioritized in terms of their care, well-being and quality of life, but also opens up business possibilities through the development of new products and services focused on satisfying their needs, interests and tastes.

Faced with this reality, the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce (CCB) has an offer of Cluster Initiatives that work on the competitiveness of companies in productive sectors and from which an opportunity for connection around the elderly has been identified.

“We seek to generate more and better opportunities in companies for the development of products and services aimed at the elderly segment”explained Ovidio Claros Polanco, president of the CCB.

In joint work, the CCB and the more than 430 companies of all sizes and actors in the popular economy will strengthen the services and products that promote a population.

“Colombia is one of the countries that is aging the most and this longevity represents a great opportunity because people have more time and it is also the longest stage of life. We are going to raise awareness among these more than 400 companies and there will also be personalized support so that they develop new products and services, benefiting companies and also older people,” said Juan Carlos González, vice president of Competitiveness of the CCB.

Mauricio Maldonado and his son Andrés are two businessmen who offer services to this segment, they have focused several of their actions on the elderly population. “He senior It is the largest market in the world due to the transformation,” says Maldonado.
