The Kings of Holland and their daughters have celebrated King’s Day in style in the city of Emmen. This holiday celebrates the birth of Monarch William, who turns 57. For the occasion, Queen Máxima has surprised with an impressive headdress made with green butterflies. It is a design by Dutch creator Berry Rutjes, a specialist in hat design and with his own store in The Hague.

The Queen also wore a green dress in the same tone as the headdress by her trusted couturier Edouard Vermeulen, who is also the founder of the Natan clothing brand. Born in Belgium, he began his career as an interior designer, although he soon realized that his true talent lay in designing women’s clothing. Over the years he has become the go-to designer for Queens and princesses of the royal families of Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

The Kings have enjoyed many activities planned to honor William on his birthday. Very smiling, they have declared to the press that they feel happy to be able to celebrate this day accompanied by his three daughters: Amalia, Alexia and Ariane. During the last official visit of the Kings of Spain to the Netherlands, Guillermo and Máxima had a few words of gratitude to the Spanish monarchs precisely for having welcomed the eldest of their daughters who studied in Spain.

As Isabel Ferrer narrated in her chronicle about the gala dinner held at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam, the Dutch monarchs had some kind words for Felipe VI and Letizia for helping them in a complicated moment in their lives. “Last year, circumstances caused [nuestra hija mayor, Amalia] resided in Madrid. From there he was able to continue his studies at the University of Amsterdam. All of this was possible thanks to the affectionate dedication of a large number of his and their Majesties’ fellow citizens.”
