It is true that there is a court ruling and that both Rosario Porto and Alfonso Basterra were convicted, but it is also true that there are many gaps in The Asunta case. And this same thing is reflected in the Netflix series that reconstructs the true story.

The fiction moves to September 21, 2013, when Rosario (Candela Pena) and Alfonso (Tristan Ulloa) reported the disappearance of their daughter Asunta. After a few hours, his body appeared on a road on the outskirts of Santiago de Compostela.

This would begin the police investigation, which soon finds evidence that points to the parents as the possible perpetrators of the crime. The news shakes the city and all of Spain. What can lead parents to end their daughter’s life? What is hidden behind that image of a perfect family?

Before the premiere of the miniseries on Netflix, its creator Ramon Campos (Farina) spoke with SERIES & MORE | EL ESPAÑOL about the filming. And he also commented on the objective they set when it came to showing the crime itself and when recreating the scene of Asunta’s death.

“Actually, “What we decided was to show the viewer the theories that existed.”, Ramón Campos began to explain. “There was a lot of talk about Rosario not being big enough to pick up the girl and take her down from the place where she was murdered. There was a lot of talk about the fact that the floor mats were missing from her car…”

“And the only way to do it was to show her everything. If we didn’t do that, there would continue to be speculation about whether a person of Rosario’s size could take the girl, about whether Rosario could have done it alone or with someone,” he continued.

“By showing it to the viewer, It is your decision to decide whether it was them or not. For different things that happened, for the moment in which they occurred. The judicial truth says that it was them, that Rosario was in the house and that, although it could not be proven that Alfonso was there, he was a collaborator in the girl’s murder. The two were sentenced to 18 years in prison and “We were not going to go against the judicial truth.”he concluded.

About ‘The Asunta case’

Throughout the six chapters that make up the miniseries, The Asunta case It brings two different timelines into dialogue, intertwining what happened before the little girl’s death with the investigation process and the subsequent trial. AND Although it is possible that we viewers know what the outcome will be, we will succumb to the narrative proposal that fiction offers us.

The blame will mainly lie on the meticulous and very detailed reconstruction of what happened, in which we will remember the real archive images, the dialogues between the protagonists that were later made public and even the media scrutiny that was made of the attitude of the accused.

But also Candela Peña and Tristán Ulloa, who jump into the void without fear and giving us what will be two of the best performances of 2024.
