Eduardo Videgaray, Sofia Rivera and José Ramón San Cristóbal ‘The Stake’ caused outrage on social networks for making fun of the physical appearance of Lucerito Mijares in a live broadcast of their program ‘Qué Importa!’. However, several Internet users attacked the hosts for giving their opinion about the singer’s body. It was for this reason that, in a recent broadcast of the same program, they retracted and offered a public apology:
“Today we are going to do something that we have never done before on radio or television, we have always refused, but we think that today the occasion warrants it,” Videgaray began.
“Last week we posted a video in which Lucerito Mijares said that sometimes he confuses her with a man and that sometimes they even call her ‘be young when you go to the movies and things like that’but she commented that it doesn’t affect her because she takes everything they say with a lot of humor,” Sofía Rivera continued.
“And precisely because she, Lucerito Mijares, said it and said that she took it with humor, we made jokes about her own statements and when jokes are made, when humor is made, there is a risk, there is the risk that someone will feel offended and it is something that we never want to happen,” continued José Ramón San Cristóbal.
In this way, the hosts justified the origin of their acidic comments about the young singer’s physical appearance and assured that they will only apologize on this occasion because they consider that they could have affected her.
That was not all, Eduardo Videgaray acknowledged that his jokes were in ‘bad taste’, but he also defended his sense of humor by ensuring that some people found it funny.
“We think that Lucerito is a very beautiful person in all aspects of life, but that night we made jokes that were in very bad taste in the eyes of some people, because not in the eyes or ears of other people. Humor is subjective, it is actually something personal and, by the way, it has become excessively complicated in these times in which we live,” mentioned Eduardo Videgaray.
Sofía Rivera ended her public apology with a strong message for Lucerito Mijares:
“The truth is that what people say or think has never mattered much to us but we do care about how we make them feel and that is why if Lucerito Mijares made you feel bad or offended you by something we said or of our jokes we offer you a sincere apology with all our heart and with great affection.”
