In a recent update on its progress in this area, the group states that it has exceeded its goals set for the first time since 2019 of reducing its carbon footprint by 50 percent, and touring in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner.

This is what Coldplay has achieved in the first two years of their Music of the Spheres tour, in which they significantly enhanced their ecological approach.

They used initiatives such as a dance floor that generates electricity when fans jump, and reduced air travel. The musicians also revealed that in this context, seven million young trees have been planted as part of the commitment to grow a tree for every fan who attends the shows.

“As a band and as an industry, we are very far from where we need to be in this,” they said in a statement.

“But we are grateful for everyone’s help so far and salute everyone who is making efforts to push things in the right direction,” they added.

New figures released suggest the band’s shows have become more efficient as they go along.

Among the developments, 72 percent of tourist waste was diverted from landfills and sent for reuse and recycling, up from 66 percent in 2023, according to the BBC.

And the band said the energy produced by the venue’s solar installations, kinetic dance floors and electric bikes has increased from 15 to 17 KwH per show.

That’s enough to power one of the smaller areas of the stage each night and provide the team with phone, laptop and tool charging stations, they said.

They further said that the figures had been evaluated and verified by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Environmental Solutions Initiative.

MIT professor John E. Fernández praised the band for “setting a new standard for the entire music industry,” BBC quoted him as saying.
