In a new interview with Rock Antenne (via Loudwire), keyboardist and leader of Nightwish, Tuomas Holopainen, has revealed what his favorite song in the history of rock is. His choice of her? The emblematic “One” by Metallica.

It has a brilliant composition, lyrics and video clip. And it was around the time I discovered metal music, so it brings back a lot of memories for me.“, explains the keyboardist. Not in vain, the single of ‘…And Justice For All‘It was a step forward for Metallica who were recording their first video clip and who They began playing with Jason Newsted after the death of Cliff Burton.

The images shown in the clip are from the movie ‘Johnny took his rifle‘, which tells the story of a young man who, when a mine explodes in the First World War, loses his limbs, speech, sight, hearing, smell and taste. The film, obviously, is about the horrors of war and is based on the novel of the same name.

I went to see Metallica and Guns N’ Roses in Kansas City in September 1992, and ‘One’ was the last song they played before the encore. It completely blew my mind“, continues Holopainen.

Without Metallica there is no Nightwish

On how Metallica has inspired Nightwish, Holopainen explains that it can’t be measured: “I don’t think Nightwish would be where we are now without that band. A year ago we were playing a festival in Belgium, I think. And after the last song, I got off the floor. stage and there was James Hetfield patting me on the back. And all I could say was, ‘Shit,’ they say.”

New Nightwish album

Nightwish have already released “Perfume Of The Timeless”, the first preview of what will be their new album, ‘Yesterwynde’which will be released on September 20.

“Perfume Of The Timeless” is the first Nightwish release in four years. We would have to go back to 2020 to find his latest publication with the album ‘Human. :II: Nature.’.

Holopainen revealed that this new single will have a duration of more than eight minutes and that the chorus did not start until after three minutes. That’s how he explained it in one recent interview with ‘Kerrang!’.

When we had the first meeting with Nuclear Blast, talking about the new album and the singles, I told them that the first single would be a song called ‘Perfume Of The Timeless’, and that It lasts eight and a half minutes, and the chorus comes at 3:30. And they said: ‘Perfect!the musician began explaining.

I think that has to do with the fact that we have a long legacy. You know, we can do whatever we want, and I do it,, When I heard that for Spotify it is good that the voices start at 15 seconds or else people will skip it, I saw that they no longer have the attention span”, he finished commenting.
