Congos de Oro celebrated the talent of the makers of Carnival 2024

The joy, color and magic of Barranquilla Carnival The José Consuegra Higgins theater of the Simón Bolívar University was taken over, in the ceremony of awarding the 2024 Golden Congos, a party that began with the melodies of the Carnival anthem ‘I forgot you’performed by the voice of Ángel Ricardo León.

210 statuettes and 20 special recognitions were delivered in the event that was chaired by the Barranquilla Carnival manager, Sandra Gómez, the district secretary of Culture and Heritage, Juan Ospino and the kings of Carnival 2024, Juventino Ojito Palma, king momo, Samia Malof Habid and Emanuel Ángulo Cabarcaskings of the Children’s Carnival, and Hania Orozco González, popular queen of the Barranquilla Carnival 2024.

“Their creative floats, vibrant costumes, impeccable choreography and exciting performances brought the Barranquilla Carnival to shine even brighter on the world stage,” expressed the Carnival manager to the winners of the statuette.

“May this Golden Congo that you proudly raise today be inspiration, enthusiasm and energy to always continue maintaining the spirit and essence of our great celebration,” Gómez invited.

In his speech, the secretary of Culture and Heritage of the District of Barranquilla express: “Here is the living essence of our Carnival, because of you, our makers, we have the greatest pride and the greatest respect for the traditions of our Festival.”

“We have a bigger challenge, and that is to make a great Carnival 2025 together”he indicated.

The secretary also took advantage of his intervention to recognize, on behalf of the Mayor’s Office of Barranquilla, the work and commitment of the manager of Carnaval SAS, Sandra Gomez.

“This year we saw the dedication, perseverance, work, and leadership of Sandra, who stands out for her ability to listen and cohesion between the different Carnival manifestations and its different operators”he commented.

At the ceremony they received recognition: 20 Cumbiambas, 12 Congo Dances, 4 Garabato Dances, 9 Mapalé Dances, 4 Son de Negro Dances, 3 Traditional Relationship Dances, 3 Relationship Dances with dance training, 2 Traditional Special Dances, 5 Special Dances with dance training, 6 Expressions invited to the Barranquilla Carnival, 16 Fantasy Troupes, 14 Tradition Troupes and 71 Costumes.

They also received ‘Golden Congo’ 5 groups of Comedies, 7 of Litanies and 2 Joselitos. To exalt the music, the traditional statuette was awarded to the winning artists and groups of the five categories of the Night of Orchestras.

With this ceremony, which was set to music by the talent of ‘The Shamans’closes the cycle of events of the Barranquilla Carnival 2024, and is preparing the beginning of the agenda of actions and events that will lead the city to experience a new edition of the Festival from March 1 to 4, 2025.
