Havana June 26.- The draft laws on migration, foreigners and citizenship, which will be submitted for debate and approval by the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba (ANPP), aim to expand the rights of Cubans and bring them in line with the times. today, stated representatives of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT).
In a meeting in this capital with the national and foreign press, First Colonel Mario Méndez Mayedo, head of the Directorate of Identification, Immigration and Immigration of that organization, elaborated on the importance of such regulations subject to consultations with the deputies and the population. , after its publication in the Official Gazette of the Republic.
He explained that their preparation is the result of four years of work, but as usually happens, in order to perfect and enrich them, the criteria of the people are taken into account through the enabled web pages and those of their representatives before Parliament, for these days, from video-conferences and in person.
According to the senior official, there is evidence of broad interest among Cuban citizens residing here and abroad, and various opinions, doubts and manipulated information have been generated, which require being answered or clarified as soon as possible.
He affirmed that no one loses their home, car or other property as a result of being a resident abroad, and this benefits, for example, more than one million 300 thousand people who have maintained their residence in the country since 2013.
Both Méndez Mayedo and Lieutenant Colonel Roilán Hernández Concepción, head of the Legal Department of the aforementioned MININT department, stated that the 24-month period of authorized stay abroad is expected to be eliminated.
The new legislation also stops the increase in the status of emigrants, and in this sense a gradual and gradual process will take place for that purpose, the sources said.
At the press conference, the senior officials also alluded to the migratory categories of Cuban citizens, the acquisition of Cuban citizenship, the renunciation of it or its deprivation, and reiterated the importance of studying or analyzing the regulations well, their scope .
In this sense, they pointed out that immigration regulations are incorporated that respond to the challenges of determining the residence of Cubans here and abroad, which in turn guarantee the exercise of rights related to the availability of assets in the national territory.
Méndez Mayedo affirmed that the draft laws on migration, immigration and citizenship are a continuation of the political decision to maintain the updating of immigration legislation, tempered with the characteristics of the Cuban immigration process and international practices.
