The German magazine Metal Hammer, celebrating its 500th edition, has made a ranking of the 500 best metal albums of all time, having voted by a jury made up of more than 100 industry experts, as well as prominent fans. (via Blabbermouth.net)

Of all of them, the gold medal went to Metallica’s ‘Master of Puppets’, the group’s third album released in 1986.: “Complex structures, musical depth, enormous potential for sing-alongs and guitar solos for the ages.”says the magazine’s review. “The composition lessons instilled in James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich by Cliff Burton since the beginning of the band reach their maximum splendor here. For Metal Hammer, this is now officially the greatest work in metal history!”.

Metallica appears five times on this list, which also includes groups like Motörhead, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Manowar, Slayer, Slipknot, Tool, Nightwish, Ghost or Sleep Token.

“Compiling this list has undoubtedly been a mammoth task, but one we have gladly taken on for issue 500“says Sebastian Kessler, editor-in-chief of metal hammer. “What an intense journey through metal history; perfect to celebrate Metal Hammer’s 40th anniversary! Rarely has there been so much discussion, philosophy, pondering and argumentation. And with the results being published, it’s probably just going to be the beginning”.
