After the successful premiere of Bad Boys: until deaththe fourth part of the saga, Will Smith will perform a new musical presentation in the BET Awards next Sunday, June 30 at 8 pm ET/PT. This event will mark his first big solo show since the controversial incident at the Oscars, where the actor was sanctioned by the Academy for the slap he gave to Chris Rock.
Although no further details have been revealed about Smith’s performance, sources indicate that The artist will premiere a song at the event as part of the album he has been working on.
This presentation is announced after his special appearance at the Coachella festival in April of this year, where he accompanied the Colombian J Balvin during a thematic performance of the theme “Men in Black” surrounded by UFOs dressed in the historical costume of men in black.
“From his beginnings as a rapper, through The prince of Bel Air until he became a box office icon as one of the Bad Boys, Will Smith is truly a global icon, and we are honored to welcome him back to the BET Awards stage”said Connie Orlando, executive vice president of Special Programming, Music and Music Strategy at BET.
The event will be overseen and executive produced by Orlando and Jamal Noisette, senior vice president of pillars and music community engagement. The company in charge of the production of the show is Jesse Collins Entertainmentwith Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay serving as executive producers.
In this new edition, the BET Awards will once again be presented by Taraji P. Henson and will have the confirmed participation of the singer Usher (winner of several Grammy Awards) who will receive the BET Lifetime Achievement Award (Lifetime Achievement BET Award).
Among other artists who will also perform on stage at the renowned event created by the Black Entertainment Television network, are Ice Spice, Sexyy Red, Latto, Lauryn Hill & YG Marley, Tyla, GloRilla, Muni Long, Shaboozey and Victoria Monét.
Additionally, Tanner Adell will have a special performance on the BET Amplified stage, while the likes of Cardi BDavido, Gunna, The Roots, Common, Queen Latifah and Jungle Brothers will also participate in the ceremony. Among the nominees, it is known that Drake leads with no less than seven nominations.
The BET Awards continue to be a crucial platform for the celebration and recognition of musical excellence, especially within the African-American community, and this year’s edition is expected to be no exception.
Will Smith has confirmed that he is in talks to make a new musical collaboration with the Colombian J Balvin. In a chat with the Spanish streamer IbaiSmith revealed that both have been exploring ways to work together after his presentation at the Coachella festival.
During the interview, Smith confirmed that he is working on new music, stating that he has some 14 songs ready. “The last two years of my life have been stressful, and made me want to talk about my experiences,” she said.
The actor mentioned his interest in collaborating with international artists, highlighting his recent contact with J Balvin. “We’re trying to find something,” Smith said.
“For me, collaboration is really important, like having the ideas and having them come out the way I want them to come out,” the actor noted. “And I want to work around the world, too. I want to work with global artists. There are some things in progress,” said the rapper.
J Balvin, who recently completed his tour of Europe and is preparing to release his new album “Sonríe, estes en camara.” In addition, Smith was confirmed as a special guest for the fourth edition of “The Evening of the Year”, an event organized by Ibai that will be held in July 2024 at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium in Madrid.
