A Hollywood workers union has reported that they have reached a tentative three-year deal with major studios which includes salary increases and, most importantly, barriers against the use of artificial intelligence in films and series.

Members of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, which includes lighting technicians and costume designers, will ratify the agreement with the Alliance of Film and Television Producers, which represents major production companies and streaming platforms, such as Disney, Netflix, AmazonParamount, Sony, Universal, Warner Bros or Apple, as well as the main cable television networks in the United States (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC…),

According to the artificial intelligence (IA), the agreement includes “language ensuring that no employee is required to provide direction to IA in any manner that could result in the displacement of any covered employee,” Reuters reports.

In late 2023, the SAG-AFTRA union – which represents the vast majority of US actors, from big stars to newcomers – and the studios reached a labor agreement that ended a nearly six-month dispute. that had stopped film and television production.

This contract also provides salary increases and broadcast bonuses that union leaders said amounted to more than $1 billion over three years. The terms of the agreement include tiered rate increases of 7%, 4% and 3.5% over a three-year period.
