He pointed out that the persistence of colonialism and the new contemporary practices of neocolonialism are the old roots of the current economic, social and financial crisis that affects, above all, the poorest countries and the dispossessed majorities.
The disastrous consequences of this scourge, based on the exploitation and plundering of resources by the powerful over other countries and peoples, have generated the current unjust and unsustainable international order, he emphasized.
He highlighted that Latin America and the Caribbean constitutes the area of the planet with the most colonies and colonial enclaves, and in this sense, he reaffirmed the PCC’s commitment to the self-determination and independence of Puerto Rico.
Likewise, he said, the Cuban political formation supports the search for a negotiated, fair and definitive political solution that guarantees the exercise of the legitimate right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and to live in peace in their territory.
He condemned the indiscriminate attacks by the Israeli army against the civilian population in the Gaza Strip, the bombings of hospitals, ambulances and schools and the massive destruction of homes and vital infrastructure, which he described as collective punishment and a serious violation of International Humanitarian Law.
On behalf of the PCC, Lozada García confirmed the position of finding a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and reiterated his support for the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of a sovereign and independent State with its pre-1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital.
More than 60 years after the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the need to quickly and unconditionally put an end to colonialism in all its forms and manifestations, Palestine continues to be denied its own existence as a State, he said.
