Three opposition legislators presented a request for reports at the Unicameral of Córdoba in relation to the so-called “Mascolo case.” This is a complex investigation that is based on federal jurisdiction and that currently has businessman Federico Máscolo as the main defendant, along with eight other people, in a money laundering case. Prosecutor Enrique Senestrari suspects that the preceding crime would be corruption with public works in the province of Córdoba.

“From a date not determined exactly, but prior to November 22, 2023, Federico Guillermo Máscolo would have introduced into the legal economic circuit part of the assets from illicit acts, with the purpose of giving them the appearance of a legal origin, hiding the true dimension and the revenues obtained from different contracts, by direct award with the province of Córdoba and the Municipality of the city of San Francisco, that the companies he managed would have obtained, and, in his criminal actions, he would have used intermediary natural and legal persons to to make them appear as owners of different types of assets that they would have acquired with money not declared to the national treasury,” is maintained in the case’s request.
Máscolo has been detained since last December, after a series of raids on luxurious homes in the countries of Las Delicias, El Bosque and San Isidro, among other properties.
According to the investigation, Máscolo would have obtained a disproportionate economic level (translated into almost two dozen homes in Córdoba, Puerto Madero, Miami and Punta del Este, in addition to a fleet of at least 14 high-end vehicles, including cars, trucks, motorcycles , boats and jet skis) as a result of the direct contracts with which it was benefited for years by both the Provincial Government of Córdoba and the Municipality of the city of San Francisco.

In addition to this businessman, the list of the first nine defendants includes: Ricardo Jose Sodo Toranzo (an automobile businessman from Nordelta, Buenos Aires, who years ago was involved, as a complainant, in the plot that targeted the controversial businessman Juan Mariano Martínez Rojas , in the case known as “the Container Mafia”); Javier Adrián Katz (a warehouse house was raided in Valle Escondido, where there was an important fleet of high-end cars), Pablo Ramon Máscolo, Mirta Esther Bustos, Enrique Medeot (neighbor of the San Isidro country, linked to other important construction companies Córdoba), María de los Ángeles Avendaño Ferrero (also a resident of San Isidro and former partner of Máscolo – they have a son in common), Ricardo Salvador Quevedo and Norma Albina Solterman.
In the last few hours, opposition legislators Rodrigo Agrelo, Walter Gispert and Walter Nostrala presented a request for reports in the Unicameral for the Executive Branch to report on “various aspects linked to the relationship between the Provincial State, Federico Máscolo and the companies linked to the same”.
In summary, the legislators denounce that “at the same time that Federico Máscolo did business contracting with the State, he harmed it at the same time, being a customary tax debtor.”
“As of December 30, 2011, dozens of cases were initiated to collect municipal and provincial taxes (…) Máscolo also failed to pay pension obligations (…) and in the Federal Courts of Córdoba since 2013 Afip initiated more of 40 lawsuits against Máscolo and Máscolo Constructora SA, in addition to verifying lawsuits by the Ospecon social work”, is expanded in the request for reports.
In it, it is highlighted: “Another striking fact is that Federico Máscolo was in a credit situation of 5 with Banco Julio and only operates with Mercado Libre SRL.”
In this sense, the legislators point out: “With all this background it seems almost a joke in bad taste that the Province of Córdoba has entrusted it in a personal capacity and through direct awarding of works to a person who disregarded the fulfillment of his tax obligations with the State and that at the same time money would have been leaking to companies abroad.”
