The Magdalena Medio Police assured that three operations were carried out in the municipalities of Puerto Boyacá and Puerto Salgar in Magdalena Medio that made it possible to avoid a million-dollar theft of hydrocarbons in the region.

The actions were carried out by the special units of the Directorate of Carabineros and Environmental Protection and the Special Hydrocarbon Operations Group, GOES-H.

The commander of the Demam Police, Colonel Héctor Jairo López López, assured that the actions were achieved thanks to the use of technological tools.

“The hydrocarbon analysis and control information system of the National Police alerted us about a drop in pressure in the eight-inch line in Sebastopol – Salgar. In this place, the uniformed officers caught in flagrante delicto a person who had installed a valve to illegally extract 4,845 gallons of liquefied petroleum gas,” the officer said.

In that same sector, the special units managed to capture another individual who also used a hose connected to an illicit valve, where he had managed to extract more than 5 thousand gallons of gasoline.

And a third operation, also in Sebastopol-Salgar, allowed the capture of two other people who with the same system had seized 400 gallons of fuel.

The commander of the Magdalena Medio Police highlighted these results because they avoid losses to the oil industry, but also to the protection of the environment.

“The installation of illicit valves in oil and gas pipelines is one of the methods most used by these criminal groups. These valves allow the illegal extraction of large quantities of hydrocarbons, causing million-dollar losses to the oil industry and irreparable environmental damage,” concluded the senior officer.
