The Hugo del Carril Municipal Cineclub (bv. San Juan 49) will screen the Argentine feature film “Eureka” (2023), at 3:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Directed by Lisando Alonso, the film follows Alaina, who is tired of being a police officer on the Pine Ridge Reservation and decides to stop answering the radio. Her niece, Sadie, spends a long night waiting for her, to no avail. Sadie, saddened, decides to begin her journey with the help of her grandfather: she will fly through time and space to South America. She repeats tomorrow, Friday at 5:45 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and Sunday at 5:45 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
“The book of solutions” (“Le livre des solutions”, 2023) will be shown at 6:15 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. After fighting with some producers who don’t understand anything about his work, Marc, an eccentric film director, runs away with his film to finish it. Accompanied by his faithful crew, he hides out in a small rural town in France with his aunt Denise. After immersing himself in chaos, he begins to write “The Book of Solutions”, a guide of practical advice. At 7:00 p.m., “Lady for a day,” 1933, by renowned director Frank Capra, will begin. An old woman corresponds with her daughter, who lives in Spain, and makes her believe that she is a great lady of high society living in a luxurious hotel. In reality, she is an alcoholic who survives by selling apples, the synopsis advances.
From 9 pm you can enjoy the Italian-French work “Queimada” (1969) by Gillo Pontecorvo. William Walker, an English agent, is sent to Queimada, an imaginary island in the Caribbean, to foment a revolt against the Portuguese. In this way he will seek to have England replace Portugal as a colonialist power.
Sunday
At 8 p.m. “The Strange Mr. Victor” (“L’Étrange Monsieur Victor”, 1938) will be presented. Mr. Victor is a shopkeeper happily married to Madeleine. His appearance as an honorable and kind citizen hides a facet that no one suspects: Victor dedicates part of his time to criminal activities, anticipating the plot of the film directed by Jean Gremillon.
