The Orchestra and the Stable Choir come together in Joseph Haydn’s Missa Brevis. In its premiere comes the Symphony of the Hero, the work of Tucumán creator Mauricio Martínez Zuccardi. Free entry.

A choral symphonic concert is always a great musical celebration, and today it will be, because there is a work in premiere, in a concert with free admission.

At 9 p.m., at the San Martín theater (601 Sarmiento Avenue) the Orchestra and the Stable Choir of the Province will converge, with choral direction from Ricardo Sbrocco and general direction of Jorge Bulacia Soler.

“We are going to address a choral symphonic such as the Missa Brevis, of Franz Joseph Haydn. It is known as the Mass of Saint John of God or the Organ Mass, an instrument that has predominance in the work, along with the soprano soloist. The organist is going to be the pianist of the orchestra, Maria Laura Merched and the soloist is Cynthia del Lane”explains Bulacia Soler.

The Missa Brevis is a form of sacred musical composition that has left a significant mark throughout history. Although short in duration, it is a work that conveys spiritual depth and beauty. It is made up of the typical movements, which respond to each moment of the mass: Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei.

Theme that honors

“In the second part we go fully into the work proposed by the composer from Tucuman Mauricio Martínez Zuccardi“, the director is excited about the premiere of the Hero’s Symphony.

“It is very important to give this place to one’s own musical production, and with such an honorable theme, not only for the people of Tucumán, but for all Argentines, such as a symphony dedicated to the Liberator, Jose de San Martin. It has an emotional and transcendental charge; This music allows us to imagine what the entire trajectory and deeds of the Father of the Nation have been since his beginnings,” he points out.

The theory

Inspired by the events in the life of the hero that gave rise to the liberating feat of America, the work dialogues in its three movements with the fundamental phases of the theory of the “Hero’s Journey” of Joseph Campbell. LA GACETA asked Martínez Zuccardi for details of his work.

– How, why did the idea of composing a work in homage to San Martín arise in you?

-He was always a character that I admired, as a child, for his dedication, heroism and righteousness. When I was finishing my composition studies in Córdoba, due to the need to ward off a health problem that had forced me to abandon basketball (a sport I loved), I had the need to write heroic music that would help me overcome obstacles; So it was natural to conceive this work based on the life of someone who fought so hard to change his reality.

ORCHESTRA AND CHOIR. Sacred and epic music will take on sound tonight at the San Martín theater.

-How do you define it in genre, style and character?

– The Hero’s Symphony is a hyper-romantic, tonal work, with epic characteristics, almost incidental music. It is not free of extra-musical references: it seeks to represent through its form a succession of states of mind that the hero of our emancipatory feat must have gone through. Therefore, the symphony does not present the traditional four-movement succession of the great sonata form that is followed in classical symphonic works, but rather the scherzo movement is dispensed with. In this way it is divided into three major movements, which represent milestones in the life of San Martín, which transmute into the psychic “hero’s path” that we all go through in our lives.

– Can you describe it in its three movements?

– The Tribulation, the first movement, refers to the young soldier who fought for Spain in Europe, who has to face the decision of returning to America to fight against his compatriots (remember that for Spain you were Spanish even if you were born in America) to the liberation of a territory that was beginning to be perceived as a new nation. There was heroism, but also resignation in that decision, for that death in our hearts of what we loved.

– Meditation, the second movement, alludes to the introspection that must have taken place when weighing the tactical alternatives to carry out its strategy, where there must have been awareness of the pain that was going to be caused, but that equally had to be produced as necessary cost to achieve that greater good that was the Freedom of this land.

– The Gesta, third and last movement, seeks to impress both the excitement of combat and the desire for freedom, but situated in the battles, the marches and countermarchs, and the final effort to achieve the objective. What constitutes a hero is the confrontation with his own fears and contradictions; and from there, by conquering his own will over his demons, he becomes capable of risking his own life for an ideal or for others.

– What does it mean to you that your work is premiered by the Stable Orchestra at the San Martín theater?

– Having this work premiered by the Stable Orchestra is an honor for me, both because of the history of the group and because of how good it currently sounds. They are excellent musicians, led by an extraordinary conductor like Bulacia Soler. What more could you want? I am very happy.
