The initiative proposed by Rector Pablo Vera Salazar in tribute to the city’s fifteenth anniversary was launched before a massive audience of writers, exhibitors and visitors to the Unimagdalena Editorial stand, located in Corferias, Bogotá.

The Bogotá International Book Fair, one of the most important cultural events in Colombia, was the setting for the launch of the ‘Santa Marta 500 Years Collection’ of the Universidad del Magdalena, a compilation of works written between the 16th and 20th centuries by national and foreign authors who address different topics about the history of the capital of Magdalena.

The presentation received massive attendance from the public, who, with great expectations and interest, learned about the purpose of the ‘Santa Marta 500 years’ Collection and the strategy ‘I count for Santa Marta: 500 days of actions and proposals for the 500 years’ , led by Rector Pablo Vera Salazar, as a tribute from the Alma Mater in view of the fifteenth anniversary of the founding of the city on July 29, 2025.

“This collection offers a very open look at the dynamism of Santa Marta, its universality and landscape architecture. One year after its 500th anniversary, I find it very interesting to generate interest in this beautiful city,” said Philippe Murcie, cultural attaché of France in Colombia for the French Alliance.

The collection, run by the Unimagdalena publishing house, disseminates the scientific, artistic, economic, historical and cultural heritage of the city and is structured into two components. The first, financed with resources from CAF – Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, focuses on the recovery and reissue of literary classics that reflect ancient Santa Marta and the second highlights contemporary works by national authors that explore the history and the culture of the capital of Magdalena.

In Bogotá, it was presented by Dr. Jorge Elías Caro, vice-rector for Research, delegated by Rector Pablo Vera Salazar, Dr. Rodrigo Peñailillo, director of CAF for Colombia and the Andean area, and master political scientist Angelica Cortés Martínez, coordinator of edition of Editorial Unimagdalena.

Rodrigo Peñailillo Briceño, CAF director for Colombia and the Andean area, announced that they hope to advance a second edition of this literary collection. “The 500 years of Santa Marta are not indifferent to any institution, it is a work that we have done together and we are very happy because this is a university with great relevance in the territory and that has made our contribution greater,” he indicated. he.

For his part, Dr. Jorge Elías Caro, vice-rector of Research at this House of Higher Studies, pointed out that during the FILBo some books that are part of the collection have been presented. “We are in Bogotá to make agreements with other institutions, we want other entities to join in and grow this collection that will reinforce the Samaritan identity,” he expressed.

The Unimagdalena Editorial stand, located in pavilion 3 of Corferias, receives visitors who come to explore works from different areas of knowledge and texts written by representative authors of the Caribbean about the Magdalena River, the Sierra Nevada and other strategic ecosystems of the territory. as well as the customs and traditions of its people.
