Activity brought together works of classic literature, science fiction and horror, among others.

As part of the commemoration of International Book Day, on April 23, the School of Journalism and the Faculty of Humanities of the Universidad Católica del Norte (UCN), the Rebelde Reading Club and the Journalism Student Center, organized in Antofagasta the activity “Liberation and Barter of Books”. The day allowed the collection of dozens of copies that were donated by students, academics and officials.

“On this occasion we wanted to reactivate an activity that was born in our School through the Rebel Reading Club, and our objective was to highlight the promotion of reading, the love of books and, above all, to value a cultural object “Indispensable for our profession, because as journalists we need to develop that depth that allows us to reflect and have a much clearer point of view on the various topics we address.”said María Constanza Castro, director of the School of Journalism.

Meanwhile, Silvia Ascueta, delegate of the Journalism student body and part of the Rebelde Reading Club, added that “We wanted to do this collaboration so that people who are interested in taking a book can do so. We think it is a good way to encourage reading. In addition, we include barter, where people with the same tastes talk and share about activities that promote literature among students, especially among those in our career.”.

Since 1995, UNESCO has promoted April 23 as a date to celebrate books and reading, based on the commemoration of the deaths of two figures of world literature such as Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare. Although in reality the author of Don Quixote died on April 22, the day of the book coincides with the date of his funeral.
