The Santander businessman Mario Hernández does not hold back opinions regarding the political situation in the country, demonstrating that he has been a staunch critic of the Government of Gustavo Petro. He has even stated that due to some of the president’s policies, he decided not to expand in Colombia and opt for the foreign market.
In this order of ideas, the businessman is in the Asian continent in search of new opportunities for the company that bears his name.. From there he stated that Colombia is very backward compared to what he has been able to observe in Tokyo (Japan).

“Look at the per capita of Asians, the consumption is impressive. Work, security. I was in Seoul (capital of South Korea) and look at the advantage they took us. Then I will go to China,” said Hernández, in an interview with Week.
At the same time, he added that a second period of ‘progressive’ current would be disastrous, “we will break,” he noted. Besides, He was emphatic in stating that the current president would not have the opportunity to succeed in the 2026 elections: “I hope we are vaccinated”he added.
For this reason, Hernández revealed who would be his ideal candidate for the next elections. Without hesitation, the businessman ruled out a candidacy from Gustavo Bolívar, because for him, The former candidate for Mayor of Bogotá received a “money” in the October 2023 elections, so it would not be an option.
And he added that, “Claudia López I don’t think she will go with Petro, Claudia López is going to jump in, I imagine. I wish it were a (Germán) Vargas Lleras, the one we need in the country,” she said.
For the businessman, the leader of the Radical Change Party is an ideal candidate because, “He is a man who executes. When he was vice president, look at the roads, look at the airports, look at all the execution, everything that is done, he did not leave things for the next day. It is a bit strong, Bukele style (Nayib Bukele, president of El Salvador), it is what we need,” he pointed out to the aforementioned media.
The man from Santander denied that he had any intention of entering politics: “I am not prepared for that,” so he suggested that another good candidate to occupy the most important position in the country, in 2026, is Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, “he is for that”, ignoring the declared aspirations of the senator of the Democratic Center María Fernanda Cabal. The businessman stated that the situation of violence and politics in the country has been affected, and revealed that some of his employees have declared themselves “repentant” for having voted for Petro: “The president always tells lies, he is contrary in everything, “No one wants to remove him and the best thing is for him to finish his term, for the country to show him what the change is to live tasty,” he added to Week.
Despite the decline in sales that he has regretted, the businessman said that he has not contemplated leaving the country, in fact, he announced that he is already involving his son Lorenzo Hernández in the business world: “He works with me on design and image. “The president has met with everyone, but if we don’t execute we don’t do anything. We must focus on generating employment, bringing foreign investment, the Government must look at how to improve in its remaining years.”, he concluded.
