The Santa Marta Coast Guard of the National Navy rescued five European tourists 22 kilometers west of Santa Marta.

After the Maritime Traffic Control Tower of the Santa Marta Coast Guard Station received a call through the Marine VHF system from the sailboat “Lady of the Seas”, the Quick Reaction Unit – URR, rescued approximately 22 kilometers west of Santa Marta, five crew members on board, who stated that they were in good health and thanked them for the prompt response to the emergency presented.

According to the information, the boat had a break in one of its sails and that it also did not have fuel to continue on its course.

At the end of the routine inspection and verification procedures of the vessel, it was taken along with its crew to the Santa Marta International Navy dock, where they were out of danger and at the disposal of Colombian Migration officials.

Thanks to the timely call of the vessel, it was possible to attend to the emergency without major setbacks, taking into account that the time that passes from the moment an emergency occurs until it is reported to the authorities has a significant impact on the effectiveness of emergency operations. search and rescue at sea, because weather conditions constantly change in this type of scenario.

For this reason, the Caribbean Naval Force, through the Caribbean Coast Guard Group and its Stations, calls on sea users to take extreme security measures and verify the conditions of the vessels before going to sea.
