The Colombian Navy rescued five European tourists, who were adrift on a boat in the Caribbean Sea. Two of the foreigners are women.

According to the authorities, assistance was possible after receiving an alert from a sailboat that reported damage to one of its sails and did not have the necessary fuel to continue the journey. This is the “Lady of the Seas” flying the Maltese flag.

“Through the Santa Marta coast guard (a distress call was received from a sailboat-type motor ship that was covering the Panama – Santa Marta route and due to the strong weather conditions in the area it suffered a breakup, which is why it began. the search using rapid reaction units,” said Lieutenant Commander Wilmer Carvajal, commander of the coast guard station.

Four of the foreigners are of French nationality and one of Irish origin. The five were transferred to the Port of Santa Marta and placed at the disposal of the immigration authorities.who evaluated his health condition.

“The Caribbean Naval Force, through the Caribbean Coast Guard Group and its Stations, will continue to use its capabilities to safeguard human life at sea. Likewise, it calls on sea users to take extreme safety measures. and verify the conditions of the vessels before going to sea,” the Navy said in a statement.

The authorities added that thanks to the prompt request for help from the sailboat, the route to follow could be activated without difficulties and recalled that the time elapsed between an emergency and the report to the competent entities plays a ‘crucial’ role in the effectiveness of operations.
