Community pot in Viña del Mar and end of state of exception: Fear of the possibility of being left without protection

// Great concern has been expressed by solidarity organizations regarding the imminent end of the constitutional state of emergency of catastrophe that governs the areas affected by the megafire of February 2 and 3 in the provinces of Marga Marga and Valparaíso.

“I was notified on Thursday by the Navy personnel that they are only in the facility where we are until Sunday and that, starting Monday, we have to see if we close or continue like this alone, which is impossible.” said Jacqueline Boyds-Reyes, manager of La Guarida Solidaria and part of the community pot team.Wills that move” installed in the Achupallas sector in Viña del Mar.

The state of exception established in some sectors of the communes of Viña del Mar and Quilpué will remain in force until May 2.

“We are very worried about that, because we are delivering a thousand meals, rations, so we are very worried, because all those people are still shutting down their homes, there are many who still live in tents because they have not even received their emergency homes. . “They don’t even have anything to heat water,” he added.

In the community pot, made up of the groups “Common Pot Resistance” and “The Solidarity Den” from Valparaiso; the “Your Old Age with Dignity and Affection” Foundation” from Las Cruces, and “The Solidarity Ladle” from Viña del Mar, along with other individual volunteers, “we fill their thermoses, we sometimes give them double meals, because there are children who go to their schools, and you see how impeccable they are, the children continue going to school. school normally, we even give them lunch and the snacks that the children take to school,” Jacqueline explained.

Faced with this situation, representatives of the pot asked the Presidential Delegation of the Valparaíso Region for support to maintain some type of protection starting Monday since “taking away the protection of the Armed Forces means leaving almost a thousand people without food, leaving a group of neighbors without their daily rations of food, which in many cases is still the only decent thing they eat all day.”

The space they occupy was donated by a church in the area and, although those who have benefited from the community pot are clear about how important it is to continue having these foods, it is also true that “we are at the mercy of the friends of others. , of people who take advantage of these situations, who have tried many times to take over the land,” he added. “We are there with freezers with proteins, we have shelves with merchandise, we have stoves, there are steel counters, we have a lot of things that have been lent to us. So, you can imagine leaving it one day, I think that on the second day we no longer have anything.”

In this regard, in the Presidential Delegation “they told us that they would be looking at the possibility of supporting us, but only on Thursday could they give us an answer since that day they will announce whether or not the state of emergency will be extended,” Jacqueline explained.

«We are really desperate, because what else to do, like the world is coming down on us. I have a lot of sadness and a lot of anger. We are in a place where the largest number of people died, and people have to deal with the pain of having lost their people, of not having a place to live, and now they want to take away their decent food, the only decent food they have during the day. », closed the community pot volunteer.
