The Avispas from Santiago are involved in the qualifying contest of the 63rd National Baseball Series, thanks -mainly- to their hardwood development. The growth in the offense was highlighted during the team’s emulation check, corresponding to the first third of the tournament.

In the match it emerged that the average in that stage (.311) exceeded that recorded in the same period of the last edition (.284). Likewise, it was
recognized the contribution of Eduardo García (26 runs batted in), Yoelkis Guibert (7 home runs) and Francisco Martínez (best batting average).

The development of Maikol Poll and Reinier Castillo was not overlooked, as was that of Andy Rodríguez (best rookie) and catcher Alexander Llanes. Currently, García has the most RBIs in the championship (42), while Martínez leads the stolen bases section (13).

The defensive average (Aved) has behaved in a similar way: .972 last year and this year it reached .973. Among the deficiencies that were detected in the evaluated stage, physical trainer Filiberto Suárez pointed out the lack of slow rolling in the outfield and the poor movement at the pace of the ball.

Promoting the number of individual, group and team actions to perfect slow rolling fielding is one of the strategies of the technical team to solve the problem. “Our spirit is to fight,” Professor Suárez insisted.

The behavior from the mound has been different, the earned run average (PCL) went from 4.27 to 6.73, although it has been able to reduce little by little and is now 5.61. In the initial third, the honors went to Olympian Danny Betancourt, Jaime Pelegrín, Reynaldo Álvarez and Kevin Rosales.

The work of the coaches, Manuel Benavides and Alberto Aguilera, was also highlighted. This came in a favorable competitive context since the
Montañeses added their 19th victory against Ciego de Ávila and the loss box remains at 16, the same balance exhibited by Camagüey and Industriales.

In front are Pinar del Río (25-10), Las Tunas (19-11), Granma (21-14) and then the Avilanian Tigres appear (20-15), after losing three times in the Tierra Caliente (5×1 , 14×3 and 6×3).
