More than 100 young Guajiros participated in ‘De patch with Congress’, an initiative that seeks to generate a space for dialogue between youth, local authorities, civil society and other relevant actors, with the aim of identifying and analyzing urgent problems that the youth of La Guajira face.
The event took place in Riohacha and was led by the Directorate of Culture, Youth and Gender of the Government of La Guajira, in alliance with the Departmental Government Secretariat. The methodology consisted of developing work and discussion tables, focused on each of the six key areas of the initiative: participation and incidence, sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, peace and security, energy transition and education.
In this space for participation and deliberation, the exchange of ideas was facilitated, in relation to the identification of the specific challenges of the youth of each region. Likewise, the importance of formulating concrete proposals to face these difficulties and the need to provide inputs to strengthen, modify or create laws aimed at addressing these problems was emphasized.
What is ‘On patch with Congress’?
‘On patch with Congress’ is an opportunity to empower young Guajiros as agents of change, builders of peace, equity and sustainable development in their communities. The idea of this initiative is to generate a positive and transformative change in the reality of youth.
This important regional meeting is part of the 8th Action Plan for an Open and Transparent Congress, 2023 – 2024, of the First Vice Presidency of the House of Representatives and the World Network of Young Politicians. Now, the Dutch Institute for Multiparty Democracy, the Directorate of Culture, Youth and Gender of the Government of La Guajira, the Chamber of Commerce of La Guajira, and Supergiros also made this scenario possible.
