Violence against children in Colombia is regrettable, at least this is demonstrated by the figures for domestic abuse in the last year, where the most affected are minors.
According to figures from the National Police, in 2023 alone, of a total of 12,532 cases of domestic violence, children were the most affected with 7,663, more than half of the total, followed by adolescents with 4,869 records.
A statistical bulletin of Colombian Institute of Family Welfareindicates that in 2023 69,660 children and adolescents were in processes of reestablishing rights, mostly due to omission or negligence, sexual violence, homelessness, abandonment, physical and psychological violence.
Only between January and February 2024, 7,433 minors were admitted.
The authorities remind citizens that the punishment and mistreatment of minors in Colombia is a crime.
