Restriction begins for heavy-duty vehicles in Chía, Cundinamarca

Starting this Monday, April 29, the restriction on heavy-duty vehicles in Chía comes into force, according to Decree 279 of April 2024. This measure will affect vehicles with loads greater than 3.4 tons.

The decision arises after the analysis of the Municipal Mobility Observatorywhich revealed a significant increase in travel times at the entrance and exit of Chía. In just two years, the times doubled, going from 6 minutes in 2022 to 14 minutes in 2024. This change has negatively impacted the quality of life of the more than 150,000 inhabitants of the area.

Mayor Leonardo Donoso promulgated decree 279 on April 12 to restore this restriction, which will be in effect starting today. This measure will affect the circulation of trucks of more than 3.4 tons on the main avenues and roads of Chía from Monday to Saturday, between 6:00 in the morning and 8:00 at nightincluding Sundays from 3:00 in the afternoon until 8:00 at night.

The affected roads include important arteries such as the 850 meters of La Pradilla in both directions, Chilacos Avenue from the Cota-Chía variant to the intersection with Carrera 2da Este., and the road that connects Carrera 9 with Cajicá to Calle 17 to the south. Traffic will also be restricted on the roads of the ring road of the Cerca de Piedra, Fonquetá, Tíquiza and Fagua villages, as well as on the secondary and tertiary urban and rural roads of the municipality.

Despite the restriction, exceptions have been established for vehicles that transport newspapers, livestock, livestock, fuel, among others. In addition, residents who own heavy-duty vehicles will be able to circulate at specific times.

This measure, which was already implemented in Donoso’s first administration in 2016, seeks to alleviate traffic in La Pradilla, especially while awaiting the completion of the Los Andes Trunk, a work that could reduce road congestion by 70% one year. once finished. However, this work is paralyzed due to difficulties in negotiating land and environmental limitations that have arisen in recent years.
