Under the auspices of the project “Strengthening and expansion of international collaboration networks between Chile-Brazil around powder technologies for tribological and catalysis applications”, financed by the National Research and Development Agency (ANID) through the Promotion of International Linkage (FOVI), the University of Bío-Bío held the Seminar “Optimization of Efficiency in Mechanical Systems”, where two prominent academics from the Federal University of Santa Catarina, doctors Diego Salvaro and Cristiano Binder, presented.

The cooperation project between the universities of Bío-Bío, Técnica Federico Santa María, of Concepción and Federal of Santa Catarina of Brazil is focused on the development of materials produced via powder technologies. More precisely, in the development of self-lubricating materials for the reduction of friction and wear and the synthesis of oxide nanoparticles for applications in photocatalysis. The results obtained enhance R&D&I activities through the exchange of academics, participation in thesis committees and the holding of scientific events, contributing to the training of high-level human resources.

The program promotes international alliances, making it possible to publicize the research development carried out in Chile and supporting the participation of the country’s scientific community in frontier research carried out around the world.

The UBB is part of the program in which four universities participate, which contributed to students and academics from the university carrying out exchanges, learning new technologies and making new contacts, acquiring experiences that contribute to their training and professional performance.

The academic of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and director of the FOVI project, Guillherme Neves, thanked the project participants for their cooperation, “this is a project to promote links that ends in June, it is a very nice type of initiative, which is totally focused on people. Hopefully it will be a long-term and very fruitful cooperation,” he said.

In turn, the speaker Diego Salvaro expressed “I am very happy to be here at this moment, we have worked for a long time together with Dr. Neves. Seeing the activities that are being developed here at the university, research groups that are very motivated and generating super interesting results, I think this always strengthens any cooperation, so it is a great satisfaction.”

The academic extension project of the Extension Directorate had the collaboration of the Faculty of Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Doctorate in Engineering, allowing Mechanical Civil Engineering students to learn about thermochemical treatments with plasma and potential savings through the application of advanced knowledge in tribology.
