Antioquia receives recognition for its garbage management system

The Government of Antioquia stands out as a leader as it is the only entity in the department and one of the four public institutions in Colombia that has adopted the 9R strategies (reject, rethink, reduce, reuse/reuse, repair, restore, remanufacture, recover and recycle) in circular economy models and comprehensive solid waste management. For this, it has been awarded the Global Zero Waste Platinum Member recognition for its outstanding commitment and success in the implementation of the Zero Waste Management System.

Diego Romero, technical director of Global Zero Waste, praised the achievements of the Government of Antioquia, highlighting it as an example for the country and the world. This recognition is based on five years of implementation of the Management System and the certification granted by Icontec.

The use of waste currently reaches 60%. From 2019 to 2023, 263 tons of waste have been recovered, which has meant considerable savings in natural resources and a significant reduction in the amount of waste sent to landfills. This management has been possible thanks to the collaboration of allies such as Recimed and Asear, as well as the commitment of public servants and contractors who have contributed to the use of waste.
