Suspected road-rage incident led to six-vehicle collision, completely closed highway through Cookstown for more than 10 hours

Days after a suspected road-rage incident led to a serious six-vehicle collision, police say they are still gathering evidence.
“Investigation’s still ongoing, charges have not been laid,” Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said Monday morning. “I expect there will be updates in the coming days or weeks. It’s too premature to speculate. “We are appealing to witnesses — anyone who saw anything.”
The collision closed Highway 400 in both directions between county roads 88 and 89 in Cookstown for more than 10 hours Friday night and into Saturday morning.
A witness told police road rage led to the crash, Const. Pawel Sikora said about the weekend.
“Initial reports suggest that two vehicles were road raging, which results in a collision between the two vehicles,” he said, noting the vehicles were traveling south at the time.
Police say the initial crash then caused one of the vehicles to cross the center median of the highway, leading to a collision with a pickup truck heading north. The vehicle that crossed the median then rolled — the driver of the rolled vehicle, a 21-year-old Mississauga man, was pronounced dead.
Police say the driver of the truck was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Initial reports suggest there were no injuries to the other drivers involved, Sikora said.
