The cutting of jobs in the public sector continues within the framework of the adjustment that the government of Javier Milei is applying at full speed. Now the turn comes to the railway sector, where some 3,000 workers could be laid off.

In an internal memorandum dated April 18, the management of Trenes Argentinos (Sofse) informs the president of the company the budget necessary for the dismissal and early retirement of 3,000 workers, estimated at $56.4 billion.

The reduction would be carried out in stages, with 1,000 workers per month until June. They represent 15% of the total staff. But the cut does not end there: in the second half, progress would be made with the dismissal of another 3,000.

It is worth remembering that on April 8 there were around 150 layoffs in the Railway Infrastructure Administrator (Adif) and in Railway Human Capital Development (Decahf). A few were reinstated.

On this occasion, the reduction of workers does not threaten administrative or technical areas but rather the operational personnel of the different railways. Including those who operate long-distance and regional trains.
