Research is closely linked to the advancement of science, in addition, it is a process through which knowledge about reality is obtained and generated, which is why it is considered the axis of training from the undergraduate level and which extends to postgraduate training. .

At the University of Manizales this is one of the strategies aimed at the generation of knowledge, the validation of those that are already part of knowledge and the creation and adaptation of technologies, in addition to becoming, alongside social projection and teaching, in one of the pillars that support the formulation of postgraduate programs.

In this sense, postgraduate courses constitute a strategic system for the development of the institution; Its dynamics correlate with the dynamics of research and advances in teaching, becoming a fundamental input to fulfill the institutional mission in three senses. As a reference and feed to the undergraduate content, as a relationship with the environment and as a platform to consolidate the research system. This is expressed in specializations, master’s degrees, doctorates and postdoctoral courses.

Beyond this view, it is also the possibility of generating knowledge as a basis for the proposals for social and economic transformation demanded by the local, regional, national and Latin American environment. Something that is consolidated through its offer of in-person and virtual postgraduate courses.

All of this is a reflection of the institutional strengthening that is shown today through six doctorates that have emerged from work articulated on three research fronts: action, reflection and creation.

An example of this is the Doctorate in Social Sciences, Children and Youth, which was born in 2000 as a result of more than 20 years of CINDE experience in research, social appropriation, impact on public policy and postgraduate training. This helps in processes of social transformation of the lives of children and youth, and along with this, the accumulated experience of the University of Manizales in studies of active pedagogies and human development, in a shared framework of work in participatory and social construction. The above will contribute to the country in its citizen processes of constitution of democracy.

The Doctorate in Administration, for its part, was born from the discussions of strategic management in two fields of the business world: human talent and information management and their impacts on the contemporary management world, as well as their relationship with the development of the regions and the country.

The Doctorate in Diversity Training is the result of the analysis of national needs in relation to teacher training and cultural, social and biological diversity, which gives the possibility of moving towards inclusive education, beyond mere school integration; Therefore, the U of Manizales sought to understand and contribute to the first inclusive education project in Manizales, of the National Political and Social Council, Conpes, among others.

From this work of social projection, reflective processes are woven that lead to the creation of the Master’s Degree in Education from Diversity, which later gave rise to the Doctorate in Diversity Training in 2016, a doctoral training program that today hosts students from all over the country.

Another similar experience is that of the Doctorate in Sustainable Development that arose from participation in sustainable development projects with communities that later led to the creation of the Environment and Development Research Center. The development of multiple research and extension projects allowed the creation of this postgraduate degree.

Other programs have emerged from the undergraduate career, such as the Doctorate in Psychology, which is born from the experience of more than 50 years of the School of Psychology in the lines of research in “Social Psychology”, “Developmental Psychology” and “ Developmental and Educational Psychology.

From a similar dynamic arises the Doctorate in Law as a result of the academic trajectory of the Faculty of Legal Sciences and the search for a critical understanding of tradition, as well as reflection and the construction of meaning about regulatory systems, legal practices. and social.

This dynamic has given these doctoral programs relevance, as they have been positioning themselves with innovative themes that respond to the needs of society and advances in disciplinary knowledge.

Today the institution has 95 qualified records of undergraduate and graduate programs, of which 23 specialization programs, 16 in face-to-face mode and seven are in virtual mode; 29 master’s degrees, of which 10 are virtual and one is distance learning; six face-to-face doctorates and one in virtual mode; in addition to four postdoctoral courses, one of them in virtual mode.
