While in the 8th Crime Chamber of Córdoba details continue to be outlined for the next trial against Roberto José Carmona (61), for the crime of taxi driver Rodrigo Bocalón (45) that occurred in December 2022 in Córdoba, the multiple murderer once again had a medical check in the last hours. For security reasons, this check led to a major police and prison operation in the city of Cruz del Eje.
Carmona remains imprisoned in the jail of that city in northern Córdoba. In the last hours, he was transferred again to a health center for a series of medical checks.
Official sources indicated that “an ultrasound of the neck vessels was performed due to moderate aortic atheromatosis.” Days ago, a similar control had already been carried out, which also involved an important operation by the Córdoba Penitentiary Service and special groups of the Córdoba Police.
If there is no surprise, Carmona will begin to be tried on May 13 in the 8th Crime Chamber of Córdoba and with the participation of popular juries.
He will arrive accused of homicides criminis causae (when one kills to achieve impunity), in addition to robbery and evasion. The penalty for this crime is life imprisonment.
Carmona has three other homicides to his credit: the rape and crime of Gabriela Ceppi and the attacks against two prisoners in prisons (in Córdoba and Chaco).
The last crime
During the siesta of December 13, 2022, Carmona was at the home of his wife, Ángela Etudié, in the Las Violetas neighborhood of Córdoba, as part of one of his usual visits for a temporary exit.
While an Argentina match was being played for the World Cup in Qatar, with the complicity of his partner and thanks to the negligence of the prison inmates who were distracted by watching the match on television, Carmona left the house through the front door.
Before, he had told the prison guards that he was going to take a nap.
After escaping, he walked a few blocks away and boarded Rodrigo Bocalón’s taxi who was just passing by.
A few blocks later, Carmona killed him with a knife. Without control, the car crashed into two wooden columns on Santa Ana Avenue.
Carmona abandoned the taxi and ran a few meters to the corner with Félix Paz. There he threatened a couple with the same knife. He stole the vehicle they were driving in and continued his escape.
Then he had a collision with another vehicle near the Villa El Libertador CPC, south of the city, and ended up fleeing on foot.
Minutes later, when all the Police were already looking for him, he approached two women who were leaving the Vélez Sársfield Clinic, in the Colinas neighborhood of Vélez Sársfield, and threatened them and injured one of them, also with the knife.
Shortly after, near where he had killed Bocalón, he was intercepted by a police patrol and detained, less than two hours after his escape.
