‘Archaeology, Communities and Territory’ is the topic addressed in this version, which is held every two years and brings together experts in the field.

The University of Magdalena will be the meeting point of the Colombian Congress of Archeology 2024, from May 2 to 4; ‘Archaeology, Communities and Territories’ is the theme of this version, where reference will be made to the role that archeology currently plays in its relationship with local communities and territories.

Around 400 people will be simultaneously in the set of thematic and general symposia that will be held and which, in turn, will be composed of presentations. There will also be other forms of participation such as workshops, academic posters and forums.

“In this Congress we want to make a deep reflection on the role of archeology with the needs, expectations and interests of local communities in the management of their archaeological heritage,” said Dr. Juan Carlos Vargas Ruiz, director of the Master’s Degree in Anthropology, unit leading academic of this meeting.

In the Alma Mater facilities, experts in the field will gather to socialize different aspects associated with archeology. “We have international guests of the stature of Gary Feynman, Almudena Hernando and Darío Bernal Casasola,” said the teacher.

Assuming the location of Santa Marta as a multiethnic, pluricultural territory and representing one of the main archaeological areas of the country, this scenario is conducive to the participation of the communities with representatives of the Cabildo Arhuaco del Magdalena and la Guajira, the Tairona Confederation of Cabildos , Association of Kogui Traditional Authorities of Magdalena, Cabildo of Taganga.

For its part, the national and international presence of different universities is expected, including: San Francisco de Quito; from Pittsburgh, from Colorado, the National Autonomous Region of Mexico; from Cádiz, from Leyden and others.

This event, aligned with the ‘UNIMAGDLENA Committed 2030’ Development Plan and its purpose of being an expanded and committed university, internationalizes the Institution to the extent that the participants are from different parts of the world and promotes future strategic alliances.
